247Monitor

247Monitor vs Pingdom

Pingdom is the household name with a hundred probe locations — and no free tier, a one-minute interval floor, and slider pricing that jumps in big steps. 247Monitor checks twice as fast for a fraction of the spend.

Pingdom (now part of SolarWinds) practically invented this category, and its probe network is genuinely vast. But the product has aged into an enterprise shape: there's no free plan at all, the entry bundle starts around $18/month, the fastest check interval is one minute on every plan size, and there's no heartbeat monitoring for the cron jobs that fail silently.

247Monitor starts free, checks every 30 seconds on every paid plan, watches your scheduled jobs as first-class citizens, and bills in pounds with every limit printed on the pricing page — no slider archaeology required.

The case for switching

Why teams pick 247Monitor over Pingdom

Twice the detection speed

Pingdom's floor is one minute on every bundle. Every paid plan here checks every 30 seconds — when checkout is down, the second half of that minute is expensive.

A free tier that exists

Pingdom's trial expires after 30 days; our free plan doesn't. Twenty-five monitors at 1-minute checks, a status page and all six alert channels, indefinitely.

Your cron jobs are monitored too

Pingdom has no heartbeat checks — a backup job that silently stops simply stops. Our heartbeat monitors treat silence as an incident.

Status pages your brand can actually use

Pingdom still can't serve a custom-domain status page over HTTPS. Ours do — and on Business they're fully white-label.

Fair's fair

Where Pingdom is the right call

No tool wins every row, including ours. If these describe you, they may genuinely fit better.

You need per-country reachability data

Pingdom's 100+ probe locations are the real deal for verifying reachability from specific countries. Our three regions answer “is it down?” decisively, but not “is it slow in São Paulo?”.

You want RUM in the same bill

Pingdom sells real-user monitoring alongside synthetics. We don't do RUM — we're focused on synthetic checks done extremely well.

FAQ

Switching questions

Is 247Monitor really cheaper than Pingdom?

For typical teams, substantially. Pingdom's 100-check bundle runs about $149/month with 1-minute checks. Our Business plan is £79 for 1,000 monitors at 30-second intervals — and Pro at £29 covers 250 monitors.

Pingdom has transaction monitoring too — what's different?

Both run scripted browser flows. The differences are cadence economics (our journeys come bundled with thousands of monthly runs) and forensics — every failed run here ships the screenshot, console logs, request details and a downloadable Playwright trace.

How hard is it to leave Pingdom?

Uptime, port, ping, DNS and keyword checks translate directly. Transaction scripts need rewriting into our journey format — usually an afternoon, not a sprint.

Run both for a week. Keep the one that wakes you up correctly.

Our free plan doesn't expire, so the comparison costs you nothing but ten minutes of setup.
